School Beliefs Inventory

Headland High School is in the process of defining its beliefs and mission as part of the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan for school improvement. The following is a list of the beliefs most commonly identified by our faculty from the School Beliefs Inventory that was submitted for consideration. We are asking the stakeholders in our school to please review these. If you have any comments or suggestions, please send an email to the following address:  [email protected].

Thank you,

Rosalyn Trammell, Committee Chairperson     Steve Williams, Principal

Beliefs:

1.  Student learning is the chief priority for the school.

2.  Students' learning needs should be the primary focus of all decisions impacting the work of the school.

3.  Students need to not only demonstrate their understanding of essential knowledge and skills, but also need to be actively involved in solving problems and producing quality work.

4.  Students learn in different ways and should be provided with a variety of instructional approaches to support their learning.

5.  Students learn best when they are actively engaged in the learning process.

6.  Students learn best when they have appropriate opportunities for success.

7.  Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs.

8.  A safe and physically comfortable environment promotes student learning.

9.  Teachers, administrators, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the school's mission.

10. The commitment to continuous improvement is imperative if our school is going to enable students to become confident, self-directed, lifelong learners.

Proposed Mission Statement:

The mission of Headland High School is to provide educational experiences, in cooperation with the home and community, that will enable students to develop traits and skills necessary to become productive citizens in a democratic society and global community.
