No Pass/No Play Ruling
This ruling states that any student who wants to participate in extracurricular activities, including athletics, must meet the following standards: 1) must, for the immediately preceding school year, have a passing grade and earn the appropriate number of credits in each of six (6) subjects, including four (4) credits from the four core subjects composed of English, science, social studies, and mathematics. 2) Physical education may count as only one (1) unit per year. 3) No more than two (2) credits may be made up during summer school. 4) Eligibility shall be determined on the first day of the local school year and shall remain in effect for one (1) complete school year. A student may not become eligible after school begins. 5) Each eligible student must have a minimum composite numeric average of 70 on the 6 units from the preceding year, including summer school. Summer school work passed may substitute for regular school work repeated in computing the 70 average. 6) Each eligible student involved in athletics must meet the definition of a regular student as defined by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. |
