Dear Parents and Students:
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Headland High School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year! I hope that you had a relaxing and enjoyable summer spending time with family and friends. The first day of school is quickly approaching and we wanted to welcome all of our families back for another exciting year.
This year we are making a transition from the seven period day to a flex block schedule. Our flex block schedule will consist of four 80 minutes blocks and a 45 minute flex period set aside for remediation and ACT preparation. The fact that all juniors will be required to take the ACT plus Writing every year was a major factor influencing our decision to add this flex period to our schedule. I am extremely excited about the implementation of this new schedule and am confident that all of our students will benefit from this change. Students on the block schedule will take fewer classes each day resulting in less information to process and learn throughout the course of a school day. The flex block schedule will also provide teachers with more time to offer individualized instruction to students and increase the number of learning activities and labs.
Our organization exists for the sole purpose of empowering students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in an ever-changing world. Our mission is based on the following key principles and defines who we are as a school. We believe that the best teachers produce the best students, technology usage will prepare our students for the digital age, great schools require involved parents, we are in the business of building students one day at a time, and nothing less than our best will do. With this mission in place we know that our students and our school will always experience success.
We are very pleased to welcome two new additions to our staff this year at HHS. Mrs. Jhina Garcia-Snell joins us this year as our new Spanish teacher and Mr. Jud Ethridge will be working with our ISS students and assisting with football. We feel that we have really raised the bar on hiring again this year and are confident that these individuals will make our great staff even better! We are excited to have them join the HHS faculty and look forward to working with them throughout the year.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure that our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
Always contact your child’s teacher first with any concerns you may have. Please know that I am available to meet with you in person or talk to you over the telephone to discuss any concerns you may have. As the instructional leader of this campus I am responsible for all decisions made in the best interest of your children. I look forward to a great year and to meeting all of our new students and their families.
